Maritime History

Scheepshistorie is a Dutch language periodical published by Lanasta which is achieved in
close cooperation with the maritime museums in The Netherlands. The first issue appeared
in 2004 and as from issue no. 5 it has also been issued in the English language under the
title of Maritime History.
The articles in Maritime History cover a period from the early 16th century until today and
relate to deep sea navigation as well as inland shipping in all their possible applications;
amongst which are: merchant shipping, navy, fishery, recreation, offshore and related maritime
matters. Maritime related subjects such as navigational instruments, beacons and light houses,
yards and transshipping organisations come up from time to time.
An important subject is the countless number of maritime paintings, water colours and
engravings of which at least one will appear in each issue of Maritime History accompanied
by an historical explanation.
In this way Maritime History presents a wide and varied picture of what the rich maritime
history has to offer. The stories are interlaced with interesting and often unique details and
supported by a large number of, mostly coloured, illustrations.
